Three different folk groups from Bolivia, Slovakia and the Philippines will perform at the Utopia Folk Festival in Campomaggiore on Saturday, August 10, in celebration of 2024, the year of Italian roots in the world.
A thematic conference, entitled Tourism of Roots: Memory and Future will be held in Zanardelli Square on August 19 and will anticipate the inauguration of the Photographic Exhibition, whose objective will be to tell the story of a community rediscovering its roots, through photos evocative of a collective memory with a strong sense of belonging. As is well known, Campomaggiore Vecchio, also known as the “City of Utopia,” was completely destroyed by a landslide. Only the Statue of the Madonna del Carmine, miraculously remained intact and to whom the population shows great devotion, was recovered from the Mother Church. The work of photographic collection, rich in testimonies, unpublished photos and recovered through the active participation of the citizenship, focuses especially on the role of the patronal feast, a solemn moment and occasion for the return of the many Campomaggioresi who emigrated elsewhere. The evening will end in the Piazza with entertainment by the Gruppo Folk.
