The Black Madonna of Viggiano. The roots in faith.

    Annual

The sacred effigy of the Madonna of Viggiano is still carried on the shoulders by the faithful on the first Sunday of May, as they accompany the statue from the village to the Sanctuary of the Sacred Mount of Viggiano. The same journey is repeated in reverse on the first Sunday of September when the regal statue of the Black Madonna of Viggiano returns to the town center. Countless pilgrims from Basilicata and beyond, devoted to this Madonna, travel to Viggiano to pray, pay homage to the Virgin, and participate in the celebrations.

    Annual

Faith and authenticity in the rituals of Holy Week in the Southern Italian villages. During Easter festivities in Montescaglioso, you can witness a suggestive manifestation of popular faith: the procession of the Mysteries featuring the ancient chants of Good Friday. At sunset in the historic center of the marvelous village of Basilicata, which is in the memories and tales of Montescaglioso's grandparents, a slow procession forms, opening from various churches with the "Mamuni," hooded figures with crowns of thorns on their heads.
