Dear Lucanian Friend, we are sure that, even though you are far from Basilicata, you cherish with affection and nostalgia the traditions related to our homeland, whether you have experienced them firsthand or they have been told to you. Easter in Basilicata is a special time, filled with religious significance and centuries-old traditions that are passed down from generation to generation.

I would like to take you on a virtual journey to our beloved Barile, the village that jealously preserves its roots and traditions, especially during Easter. Here, the oldest Sacred Representations of Holy Week take place, including the oldest Via Crucis in Basilicata, which on Good Friday, with the Procession of Mysteries, combines symbolism from the Arbëreshë culture with religious symbols.

Surely, in your own stories or those of your loved ones, you have imagined the face of the beautiful Zingara alongside the Zingarella adorned in gold, or the Moro together with the Moretto and all the religious figures that animate the Good Friday procession.

As in every celebration, families gather for a hearty and convivial meal, sharing stories, laughter, and, of course, excellent food. The table is laden with traditional dishes, and each course tells the story of our culture and our roots.

Easter in Barile is a unique experience, full of deep traditions, sharing, and unity among people. We would like to suggest that you share these traditions with your children and grandchildren, just like your grandparents used to do, perhaps involving them in preparing typical dishesor explaining to them the symbolic meaning of each tradition. This way, they can feel a special connection to their homeland and the family roots, and who knows, they may decide to come to Basilicata to experience this and many other emotions.
