Making Roots. It will be a day entirely dedicated to Lucanians around the world that will be held in Maratea next July 13, which will feature a double event in the morning and evening, with the “La Perla” award scheduled.
At 11 a.m., the Planet of Maratea will host a workshop of the “Making Roots” cycle carried out by Italea Basilicata as part of the Tourism of Roots project desired by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, financed by the European Union and in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, whose first two events have already been held in Oppido Lucano and Colobraro.
The event will include greetings from Maratea Mayor Cesare Albanese, Pierfranco De Marco, President Proloco “La perla” Maratea, Elvira De Giacomo, regional coordinator Tourism of the Roots for MAECI, Luigi Scaglione of the Centro Studi Internazionale Lucani nel Mondo, Marcella Di Feo of APT Basilicata, Potenza Province President Christian Giordano and MPs Salvatore Caiata and Christian Di Sanzo, elected in the North America constituency.
Speakers in the debate include Michele Cappiello, President Paesi e Radici and head of the Italea Basilicata group, by Alessandro Attolico, executive of the Province of Potenza and coordinator of the MCR2030 Resilience HUB, the Secretary General of the Council of Europe’s “Enlarged Agreement on Cultural Routes,” Stefano Dominioni, and the President of the Council of Europe’s “Historic Café Route,” Arnold Klingeis.

All workshops feature a workshop activity, dedicated to local crafts or agri-food production, which in Maratea will demonstrate local mozzarella production by Anna Bocchiglione’s “La Via Lattea”

How to get there

By plane, the nearest international airports are: Bari Palese, ideal for the Jonic coast area and the province of Matera. Naples Capodichino, preferred for the Maratea coast and the province of Potenza. Lamezia Terme, to reach the Pollino National Park. By train, Trenitalia and FAL connect Potenza and Matera with Bari, Foggia, Naples, and Salerno every day, reaching the final destination with an integrated train-bus system. Several transport companies provide bus trips to and from Basilicata from Northern Italy and various foreign countries. By car, Basilicata is reached from the North by following the Adriatic coast, along the A14 Bologna-Taranto, and from the Tyrrhenian side, traveling the A2 Autostrada del Mediterraneo.
