The experience
The essence of bread.
Bread, a staple food since ancient times, holds a special significance in Basilicata. It represents sustenance, nourishment, and the very essence of life. The breadmaking process is deeply rooted in tradition, passed down from generation to generation, preserving the knowledge and techniques that have shaped the culinary identity of the region.
Harnessing the generosity of the land.
The bread you will create in this workshop will be a testament to the generosity of the land. Using locally grown flours, sourced from nearby wheat fields, you will feel the connection to the land that nourishes the grains. The flour, infused with the unique terrain of Basilicata, will give your bread a distinctive flavor and aroma.
Honoring ancestral techniques.
Kneading the dough, you will follow in the footsteps of countless generations of bakers who practiced this art before you. The rhythmic movements, the gentle touch of your hands, and the transformation of simple ingredients into a nourishing loaf will evoke a sense of connection with your ancestors.
The warmth of the traditional oven.
The wood-fired oven, the heart of the bakery, will play a fundamental role in the baking process. The natural warmth, infused with the aroma of burning wood, will gently guide your bread towards perfection. The resulting loaf, with its golden crust and soft, airy interior, will be a testament to the skill and passion of the baker.
More than just bread: a culinary and cultural experience.
This bakery workshop is more than just a cooking class; it’s a cultural immersion. You will have the opportunity to learn about the traditions and values that underlie the culinary heritage of Basilicata. You will learn about the importance of family, respect for the land, and the pride in preserving time-honored practices.
A taste of Basilicata: a culinary souvenir
Savoring the freshly baked bread, you will experience the culmination of this unique workshop. The flavors and textures will transport you back to the heart of Matera, to the warmth of the bakery, and to the rich traditions of Basilicata. This culinary souvenir will persist long after the workshop ends, serving as a reminder of the bond between the land, family, and the art of breadmaking.
