“(Vi)Andante, ma non troppo“: storie di ordinaria emigrazione” is a theatrical performance with which we want to encourage a reflection on the phenomenon of the exodus of the migratory masses of Lucanians to the Americas starting from the end of the nineteenth century, taking its cue from the discovery, at the municipal archives of Forenza, of some letters of emigrants from the Americas to their loved ones who remained in the village. The discovery of almost anonymous letters, of whose authors nothing is known, at most a first name and a surname, suggests imagining stories, building a narrative to symbolically restore, a face, a dignity, a history, to the thousands of women, men and children who from the end of the nineteenth century were forced to leave their land moved by need and hope for a better future: in short, a kind of commemoration and commemoration to the unknown emigrant! At the same time, it is intended to provide the suggestion of the everyday life of “village life” at the end of the nineteenth century, with a recovery of the dialect tradition, thanks also to the coeval musical atmospheres, which will be recreated by a musical ensamble, revolving around the theme of farewell to one’s own land. In the background, a stage set whose contents, will consist of images and filmed contributions, the result of careful documentary research and proper philological reconstruction related to the period of reference. The staging of a play related to the theme of emigration, in fact, is presented as the point of arrival of a path of exchange between local communities and the communities of Lucanians living outside the regional territory and abroad.
