The experience

Come to visit the Pastoral Museum in Castelsaraceno, you will embark on a true journey through time!

It represents a unique presence in the Lucanian demo-ethno-anthropological museum landscape, serving as the temple of local identity, a space for meetings and discussions, and the custodian of the roots, culture, and traditions of Castelsaraceno.

You will find a welcoming exhibition itinerary equipped with the latest technology to ensure a fully immersive learning experience, transforming the museum exhibition into an adventure.

The experiential journey offered by the Museum is also a journey of words, reflected in the names characterizing the exhibition halls: Space, Time, Knowledge, and Memory rooms.

The Space room features an exhibition area where visitors can observe the shepherd’s work tools. At the center of the room, there is an interactive-multimedia table dedicated to the narrative of five emblematic objects in pastoral life. The narrative is activated by placing the card in the indicated area, accompanied by the viewing of very ancient photographic images.

The Time room transports visitors on a landscape journey through the nature of Monte Raparo, a sensory experience accompanied by the characteristic sounds and smells of the territory.

The Knowledge room is dedicated to the custody, safeguarding, and transmission of ancient pastoral knowledge, recounted directly by the protagonists through video interviews.

Inside the Memory room, there are four video narratives dedicated to important themes: Transhumance, the arboreal rite of the ‘Ndenna Festival, the shepherd’s day, and the craftsmanship of “fuscelle” (a type of basket).

The Pastoral Museum, a space for evoking memories and stories, provides visitors with a comprehensive view of pastoral life in all its cultural and symbolic expressions.
